Profile

Matthew is a senior paralegal in the commercial dispute resolution team, based in the Oxford office. He is a key support contact and provides assistance to the firm’s wider restructuring and insolvency team.

While primarily working on contentious and non-contentious restructuring and insolvency matters alongside a dual qualified insolvency practitioner/solicitor, Matthew also assists on a variety of other matters including complex and straightforward contractual disputes, data protection issues and claims alleging defamation and malicious falsehood.

Matthew joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2019 from a regional UK law firm. Earlier in his career, after completing a chemistry degree, he spent several years working in customer relations at a number of financial institutions.

Recent work highlights

  • Assisting a senior team member with the administration of a well-known football club and managing the impact of that process on the individuals and communities involved.
  • Providing assistance in the investigation and preparation of a complex originating application under the Insolvency Act 1986 against company directors, with a value in excess of £1 million.
  • Successfully pursuing and recovering debts at small claims, fast track and multi-track values.
  • Assisting a client in rebuking and settling a claim which involved a malicious threat to present a winding-up petition.
