Anna is a partner and heads the firm’s IP, IT and commercial team. She advises on intellectual property, commercial contracts and data protection.

She assists her clients with their brand protection strategy and registers their trade marks in the UK and internationally. Anna is experienced at handling all aspects of trade mark filing, prosecution and enforcement, including oppositions, revocation and invalidity claims, and handles trade mark portfolios for a wide range of clients in sectors including consumer goods, food and drink, technology, energy, publishing, hotels and restaurants. She prepares trade mark licences and assignments and handles infringement claims. Anna also advises on copyright, including licences, assignments and infringements.

Additionally, she covers all aspects of UK GDPR compliance, including carrying out audits and preparing policies, and advising on consent issues, data sharing, international data transfers and data breaches. Anna also drafts and advises on a wide range of commercial contracts including agency, distribution and supply agreements, plus advertising and sponsorship agreements. She advises on consumer protection, e-commerce and advertising law.

Anna represents a wide range of clients both in the UK and internationally, and has a special focus on the education sector (including universities and other education providers) and the media and creative industries (particularly publishers). She is a member of IAPP (the International Association of Privacy Practitioners) and regularly attends trade mark conferences such as INTA and Marques. Anna chairs the European Law Group, and she is a contributing author to the UK chapter of Media, Advertising and Entertainment Laws Throughout the World. She is recommended by both the Legal 500 and WTR 1000. Anna joined the firm in 1993 and became a partner in 2003.

International brand protection

Registering trade marks for a client in the UK, EU, US, Canada and Mexico. Carrying out availability searches before filing, and advising on the filing strategy.

Settling a trade mark opposition

Successfully opposing a trade mark application at the UKIPO for a research organization, resulting in a settlement agreement, alongside preparing an assignment of other trade marks for this client.

Research project data protection

Advising an international architects firm on protecting the data of focus groups in a research project on improving working environments for neuro-diverse employees, including obtaining consent and later anonymising the data.

International data transfers

Helping achieve GDPR compliance for the transfer of children’s data to and from schools outside the UK. Working with Chinese lawyers to help the client comply with the new Chinese data protection law.

London airport contracts

Advising on the airport’s range of contracts with retailers, taxi companies and online platforms, helping it achieve its objectives while maintaining good relationships with its business partners.

Retail framework agreement

Helping the client (the supplier) negotiate a 10-year framework agreement with a high street fashion retailer, including the licensing of the client’s intellectual property.

Publishing agreements

Advising the client (which commissioned a new edition of a seminal academic book) on its agreements with its US publisher, the editor and various academic contributors.
