Nick is a partner in the London office specialising in both contentious and non-contentious employment work. He has particular expertise in the international aspects of employment law, industrial relations law and in the employment aspects of sport – particularly professional football. He advises on a wide range of HR problems, policies and strategy including the management of large-scale business re-organisations. 

His client base includes airlines, telecommunications companies, insurers, commercial marine sector businesses, yacht sector clients, as well as senior executive clients and clients in the employment aspects of sport. Nick provide a full range of advice for his clients that includes document reviews; general employment; employment litigation in the High Court and Employment Tribunal; industrial relations law advice for employers; the employment law aspects of company sales and business transfers; private international law aspects of employment law; and aviation and maritime employment law.

He is the author of Trade Union Law and Collective Employment Rights (Jordan); an editor of the Sweet & Maxwell Employment Law Encyclopedia; and a contributor to Tolley’s Employment Law Service and Tolley’s Health and Safety Handbook. Nick qualified in 1999 and became a partner at Thomas Cooper in 2015. He is recognised by the Legal 500 as being "hugely experienced” and “great to have in your corner”.

Recent work highlights

  • Advising the former chief executive of a Championship football club on his whistleblowing-related dismissal.
  • Acting for an airline in its re-rostering of part-time employees and successfully defending the subsequent multi-party indirect sex discrimination litigation.
  • Representing a London marine market claims manager in the dismissal of its managing director including obtaining injunctive relief to prevent misuse of confidential information from the director’s LinkedIn account.
  • Advising numerous managers and coaches on their dismissals from Championship football clubs.
  • Acting for the dismissed head of medical against a Premier League football club in a race discrimination claim.
  • Advising on and co-ordinating the dismissal of 950 employees from one employer from various sites around the world over an 18 month period.
  • Acting for an employer on the successful collective redundancy consultation litigation presented against it by a trade union (the case being the leading authority on the issue of UK territorial jurisdiction in collective redundancy cases).
