Accessibility

At Penningtons Manches Cooper, we are committed to ensuring that our website is accessible and easy to use for everyone, whether or not you have any disabilities. We have undertaken the following actions to enhance the accessibility of our website by all:

  • Standards compliance
We aim to ensure our website meets WCAG level AA accessibility requirements. In some areas, the site uses JavaScript to provide enhanced interactions. Our objective is to deliver equivalent experiences for users who cannot use JavaScript, and we continue to work toward full parity. We use a range of automated accessibility testing tools as part of our quality assurance process. However, these tools only form one layer of our approach. All pages also undergo expert review and testing with multiple screen readers.
  • Background, text and color
Thoughtful use of typography, color and contrast supports users with visual impairments. Here’s what we’ve implemented:

Colours
The site is designed to be accessible to users with color-vision deficiencies. We have checked font and background combinations against recognised color-blindness conditions and ensured all information remains understandable. No essential content relies on color alone.

Font and text size
We use clear, legible typography throughout. Browsers such as Firefox allow users to control text size manually via the View > Text Size menu.

  • Style sheets
The website uses cascading style sheets (CSS) to define layout and styling. Where possible, the site remains functional, navigable and readable even if a user’s browser does not support CSS.
  • Non-text elements
Providing alternatives for visual and multimedia elements ensures that screen reader users and those with visual impairments can access all content.
  • Images, videos and other non-text elements
The site can be used without viewing images or graphics. All non-text elements, including images, animations, icons, audio, video and multimedia, are supported with text equivalents via descriptive alt attributes. Decorative elements use empty alt attributes.
  • Links and navigation
Clear, predictable structure improves usability for everyone, including users with visual, motor or cognitive impairments.
  • Navigation
Navigation elements are consistent across pages. The site is fully operable via keyboard alone and remains navigable when scripting is disabled.
  • Pop-up windows
We avoid pop-up windows except where they are appropriate and necessary, for example, when it’s important to keep the original browser window visible in the background.
  • Forms and tables
Well-labelled tables and form fields help users understand content and enter information correctly.
  • Frames
Although a small number of essential pages use frames, we generally avoid them because of accessibility limitations. Where frames are present, they include descriptive titles to support screen readers.
  • Tables
Tables are occasionally used for layout, but always in line with WCAG guidance. They contain no visual formatting that would confuse assistive technologies and remain meaningful when read in a linear format.
