Portrait of Sarah Allan

Profile

A partner in the London office, Sarah heads the yacht team and works within the broader marine, trade and aviation group. She specialises in all yacht-related matters, advising owners, managers and shipyards on contracts relevant to superyacht operations, including sale and purchase transactions, refits, charters and management agreements. She is well-versed in standard form contracts such as MYBA and ICOMIA, and regularly drafts bespoke terms and conditions for industry stakeholders.

With a background in shipping law and experience at an International Group P&I club, she brings to her yacht practice a deep understanding of the wider commercial and regulatory landscape.

Sarah is highly experienced in superyacht insurance. She frequently handles insurance claims and coverage disputes, and has managed major yacht casualties, including total losses. As a sailor herself, she also advises on issues arising from high-profile sailing regattas, racing incidents and rule-related matters. She has acted in disputes relating to the purchase, build and refit of superyachts, where legal advice is required along the way and practical solutions must be found.

Her expertise in this area is underpinned by her passion for sailing, both as an accomplished racer and qualified yachtmaster. In her free time, she still enjoys getting out on the water.

Sarah is ranked by Chambers High Net Worth for her work on yachts and superyachts, where clients describe her as someone who “understands the best interests of clients” and is “capable of great things.” She is also recognised in The Legal 500 for her insurance work in connection with yachts. As a Spanish speaker, she works closely with colleagues in the Madrid office and across the firm’s international network.
