Helen Hammond, Senior Associate at Penningtons Manches

Profile

Helen is a senior associate in our clinical negligence team. Her in-house training with the NHS in Wales gave her the benefit of insider knowledge on how hospitals deal with claims made against them. She qualified in 2008 and joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2011.

She has dealt with a broad range of clinical negligence claims but has a special interest in cardiac claims, bowel injuries, claims surrounding the care of the elderly, and those arising out of mismanagement of pregnancy and labour. She also has an interest in inquest work.

Helen deals with claims both in the county and High Court, acting on behalf of the individual. She has been quoted in the press on  issues surrounding clinical negligence claims - particularly those arising from the poor supervision of junior doctors.

Recent work highlights

  • Successfully pursuing a birth injury claim where a multimillion pound settlement was achieved to provide the client with all the care and support she will need throughout her life.
  • Assisting in the case of ‘A v Powys Local Health Board’ where a settlement of £10.5 million was achieved at trial - the biggest ever award in a personal injury case.
  • Achieving an admission of liability in a claim arising from the negligent performance of knee replacement surgery.
  • Securing an admission of liability in a claim raising from the mismanagement of labour where the baby sadly passed away shortly after birth.
