Profile

Giles is a senior associate in the private client team, specialising in contentious trusts and probate involving both domestic and international elements, and Court of Protection and mental capacity matters. He works predominantly out of the Basingstoke and London offices.

He advises on all aspects of trust and estate litigation, including claims under the Inheritance (Provision for Family and Dependants) Act 1975, will validity disputes, disputes around the removal of trustees and personal representatives, cases involving DNA verification, estate and trust administration disputes, claims relating to constructive trusts and/or proprietary estoppel and estate related co-ownership disputes. He also has experience of advising on cases relating to charities and charitable legacies.

Having trained with the firm, Giles qualified at Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2015. He is an affiliate member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), and a member of The Contentious Trusts Association (ConTrA) and the Institute of Legacy Management (ILM).

  • Representing a client in an application to secure reasonable provision from an estate of significant value, including contention in respect of foreign assets.
