Profile

Thomas is an associate in the employment team at Penningtons Manches Cooper, based in London. His client base ranges from corporate clients to staff associations and their members, as well as individuals, including senior executives. Thomas advises on a broad range of employment law issues such as discrimination, sexual harassment, whistleblowing, unfair dismissal and day-to-day HR matters, including handbook policies and other contractual issues. He also advises on the drafting and negotiation of employment contracts and settlement agreements, and has assisted a number of clients with data subject access requests. Thomas regularly acts for clients in respect of claims in the Employment Tribunal, Employment Appeal Tribunal, County Court and the High Court.

With an active role in the firm’s sports and entertainment group, Thomas is co-chair of its motorsports sub-group. He has represented athletes on matters involving anti-doping violations, selection appeals, Paralympic eligibility and disciplinary hearings, and has advised footballers and intermediaries/agents on player transfers. Thomas has acted for sports organisations in protecting their confidential information and has experience in CAS proceedings. In his spare time, he is also a panel member for the Basketball England Disciplinary Panel.

Thomas is a member of a number of professional associations, including the Employment Lawyers Association, LawInSport, and AIJA. He co-chairs the firm’s disability and mental health committee and is a trained mental health champion.

  • Acting for a global technology company and successfully obtaining an injunction in the High Court against a former employee for delivery up of company property.
  • Advising a trade union and its member in respect of a complex whistleblowing claim.
  • Representing an athlete charged with an anti-doping offence and successfully reducing the length of the ban by over two years.
  • Advising an athlete in respect of Paralympic eligibility and selection.
