James is an associate in the commercial dispute resolution and regulatory compliance teams. He represents clients across a wide range of sectors in relation to contractual and shareholder disputes, data protection and professional negligence claims, as well as in matters arising out of investigations and enforcement actions instigated by a number of bodies including the Financial Conduct Authority.
Prior to joining Penningtons Manches Cooper, James spent three years with a leading global contentious competition law practice where he represented several national and international transport and logistics corporations, as well as internet search providers on claims arising out of European Commission decisions. His experience extends to litigating such claims in both the High Court and the Competition Appeal Tribunal. He has co-authored several articles on the private enforcement of competition law and also has extensive experience in working with third party litigation funders and ATE insurance providers to provide alternative routes to legal redress for clients.
James trained at a Magic Circle firm, which included a six month secondment with its anti-trust team in Brussels. Prior to this, he was head of the education policy unit at the leading Westminster think tank, Policy Exchange, and spent three years as a consultant within PricewaterhouseCoopers’ public private advisory practice. He holds a BA and MSt in Modern History from Magdalen College, Oxford.
