Maria is a senior associate based in the Madrid office who specialises in road and air transport, shipping law, insolvency law matters, international trade and litigation. She has particular expertise in contentious and non-contentious matters involving the stakeholders of transport and logistics chains.
She provides legal advice to multinational companies within the insurance and transport sectors, including international insurance companies, insurance brokers and freight forwarders in shipping and road transport. Maria also has experience in dealing with air passenger and freight claims. As part of the litigation team, she also deals with complex cargo claims under Spanish law and regularly attends court hearings representing her client’s interests.
I always aim to build a relationship with clients that is based on trust. Good communication has always been a key factor for me in achieving this and I try to understand my client’s goals and expectations, and always strive to protect their interests and make them my priority.
Maria joined the firm in 2005 having previously worked as an in-house lawyer at a Spanish shipowner. She earned her law degree in 2004 and later undertook a master’s degree in business and shipping law at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (ICADE). She has been a member of the Madrid Bar Association since 2005 and appears as a practising attorney. Maria speaks fluent Spanish and English.

Javier is a senior associate in the marine, trade and aviation team in the Madrid office. He specialises in ship finance transactions, having almost 14 years’ experience in advising shipyards, shipowners and financial institutions in the shipbuilding sector on the sale, purchase and financing of all types of vessels within the Spanish market.
He has particular experience in the Spanish tax lease system and the Spanish RD 874 financing structure as well as on syndicated financing (also involving export credit agencies) and the registration and flagging of all types of ships. Javier qualified as a Spanish lawyer in 2007. He subsequently practised in the Spanish office of a leading international firm and then within the shipbuilding department of a specialised boutique firm.
A member of the Spanish Maritime Law Association, Javier has authored various articles relating to shipbuilding and ship finance matters which have been published in a specialised national shipbuilding and ship finance magazine.

Antonio is a senior associate in the Madrid office. I advise clients on a wide range of commercial and shipping matters, often with an international dimension. My focus is on providing clear, practical solutions in complex disputes and transactions, drawing on extensive experience in litigation, arbitration and cross-border issues.
Antonio has lectured at the University of Loyola and ISDE, and the Chambers of Commerce of Campo de Gibraltar and Seville. He studied law at the University Complutense in Madrid and obtained an LLM in maritime law at the University of Southampton.
