Penningtons Manches defends client’s reputation and secures media apology

Posted: 10/10/2018

The reputation management and privacy team at Penningtons Manches has successfully settled a sensitive matter on behalf of its client, Liam Tse, in relation to his libel claim against the Manchester Evening News.

Mr Tse’s reputation has been defended in respect of the serious allegations which were published in error by the newspaper when reporting the inquest into the tragic death of Shahida Shahid, who suffered an allergic reaction after eating a burger at the Almost Famous restaurant in Manchester. At the time of the incident, Mr Tse was head chef at the restaurant.

An apology has been published in the print and online editions of the Manchester Evening News (click here for the apology). Libel claims for Mr Tse against other publications are ongoing.
