Super priority visa service opens in India

Posted: 14/05/2013

On 14 May 2013 the Home Office launched its first same-day visa service in Delhi and Mumbai, making it easier for Indian business travellers to visit the UK. The service is optional and costs 51,000 rupees (equivalent to around £607, as of 14 May 2013), in addition to the standard visa application fee. The service is currently only available in Delhi and Mumbai but there are plans to extend the scheme to Chennai within the next few weeks.

Appointments can be booked online and applicants must be prepared to attend the visa application centre between 8.00 am and 9.30 am, Monday to Friday.

The service is only available to customers who:

  • are applying for a six month or two year multiple entry visitor visa (excluding student visit visas); and
  • have travelled without difficulty in the last five years to one of the following countries: UK, US, Australia, New Zealand, Canada or a Schengen country; or
  • are employees of companies that are members of the Business Express Programme (managed by UK Trade and Investment in India) and are travelling as an official business visitor.

Applicants with any form of adverse immigration history are encouraged not to use this service as further investigations into their visa application history will need to be made.
The Home Office points out that using the super priority visa service does not imply or guarantee in any way that the visa application will be successful and, as with all applications, applicants must meet the requirements of the UK's Immigration Rules.
