Nicky is an associate in the shipping, international trade and commodities team in London. She regularly advises shipowners, charterers, P&I clubs, insurers, commodity traders and other key stakeholders in the maritime industry on a broad range of contentious dry shipping matters.
Her practice encompasses contentious shipping work with a focus on charterparty disputes, bills of lading, cargo claims, ship arrests, demurrage, off-hire and marine insurance. Nicky’s experience also extends to working on international disputes arising out of sale of goods contracts, and disputes within the commodity sector relating to soft commodities and agribusiness.
I specialise in advising clients on complex shipping, maritime and trade law matters. My aim is to deliver commercially pragmatic solutions to clients in a fast-paced international sector.
This broad expertise has given Nicky a strong understanding of English High Court procedure as well as international arbitration and mediation under The London Maritime Arbitrators Association, the International Chamber of Commerce and The London Court of International Arbitration rules. She also has experience of trade arbitration, in particular The Sugar Association of London, The Refined Sugar Association, The Grain and Feed Trade Association and The Federation of Oils, Seeds and Fats Associations. Many of the cases she has acted on have involved multi-jurisdictional proceedings.
Having studied classics at the University of Bristol, Nicky completed her Graduate Diploma in law and went on to pass her Legal Practice Course at BPP with distinction. She joined Penningtons Manches Cooper as a trainee in September 2019 and qualified in September 2021.
