Profile

Heather is a senior associate in the shipping team in the firm’s London office.

She has experience in all aspects of dry shipping litigation and regularly advises and represents shipowners, charterers and their respective P&I clubs on a broad range of issues in both the High Court and in LMAA arbitration. Additionally, Heather has experience in wet matters and has worked on several major casualties including a container ship fire, a wreck removal and collision cases. She has also acted for shipowners in disputes under financing arrangements.  

Heather graduated from the University of Birmingham before training and qualifying at a specialist City shipping firm. After qualifying as a solicitor in 2014, she worked for an International Group P&I club for three years before returning to private practice. She has also spent time working for shipowners in London and Hamburg on secondments. Heather joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in April 2020.  

Recent work highlights

  • Acting for shipowners in several disputes with lending banks under loan agreements and bareboat charter leasing agreements.
  • Advising a shipowner on recovery under the ICA in respect of a high value cargo claim.
  • Providing advice to charterers on withdrawing a vessel following an overpayment of hire.
  • Acting for a shipowner in a High Court collision claim involving two other vessels in the Panama Canal.
  • Assisting a financing bank in respect of obtaining original documents under an LOI.
