Penningtons Manches acts for Oxford University Press on acquisition of Epigeum

Posted: 23/06/2015

Oxford University Press (OUP), a long-standing client of Penningtons Manches, has announced the acquisition of technology company, Epigeum Limited. The company designs and delivers online courses in research methods, clinical and study skills, teaching and university management for post-graduate students, researchers, lecturers and university administrators.

The Penningtons Manches legal team was led by Oxford corporate partner David Tighe assisted by Nicola Sole. Max Windich and Jo Windich provided IP and commercial support while partner Sally Nesbitt and Charlotte Mortlock advised on employment issues.

Epigeum is the latest in a series of transactions where Penningtons Manches has advised OUP, including the acquisitions of Nelson Thornes and MyMaths and a recently announced joint venture with AQA to deliver international qualifications.

John Challice, VP and Publisher, Higher Education, OUP, commented: “I don’t care what people say about lawyers, I thought you guys at Penningtons Manches were marvellous!”

Epigeum will continue to operate as a separate company, although the acquisition offers an immediate opportunity to accelerate the company’s development by adding OUP resources to its course development model.
