Family law partner featured on Thomson Reuters’ ‘The Hearing’ podcast for discussion on surrogacy law

Posted: 21/11/2023

Linzi Bull, partner in the family law team, and head of the modern family team, has been featured on the latest episode of ‘The Hearing’, the legal podcast from Thomson Reuters Practical Law.

Speaking with host Yasmin Sheikh, Linzi discusses in depth her modern family legal practice – an area where the law is often playing catch-up with the reality of how varied contemporary family relationships can be.

Running since 2018, each episode of the podcast features an individual who has a connection with the law, with the goal of examining how the legal profession is evolving, what the key latest insights are in global legal innovation, and the stories of some of law’s trailblazers. Previous guests on the podcast have included Lady Hale, Alistair Campbell, and Cherie Blair.

Linzi’s episode begins with review of how her career began and developed, including some of the key cases she worked on, and how her practice has evolved into advising on specialist issues relating to surrogacy, same sex families, and polyamorous relationships.

From there the focus moves onto the complex legal and ethical issues surrounding surrogacy law in the UK, including the proposals for reform from the Law Commission; the role of the family lawyer when representing families and managing the strong emotions that come with this work; and the current gaps in the law surrounding polyamorous family units.

The episode is available to be listened to on the Thomson Reuters Practical Law website here, as well as on Spotify here, and Apple Music here.
