Penningtons Manches has recruited five new lawyers to strengthen its growing private client practice in the South and to further boost its private wealth team. The practice is widely acknowledged as one of the top private client teams in the UK, with a reputation built on years of industry expertise. Recent accolades from industry awards programmes including eprivateclient, Citywealth and Wealthbriefing, and consistent recognition in legal profession guides Chambers UK and The Legal 500, are further testament to the team’s strength across its network of offices.
Senior associate Elizabeth Nicholas, who previously worked at leading City law firm Macfarlanes, brings with her over ten years’ experience in the taxation of UK resident non-domiciled individuals and the cross-border structures used for wealth protection and tax planning. She joins Penningtons Manches’ Guildford office alongside associate Thomas Miller, from international law firm Charles Russell Speechlys. He specialises in acting for individuals with assets in the UK and overseas, owners of family businesses, trustees and beneficiaries.
Nyree Craig joins the firm’s Basingstoke office as a senior associate from Taylor Wessing. She has over ten years’ experience in advising both UK and international clients on asset holding structures, including advising on the creation of these structures, the duties and powers of trustees, the UK tax applicable to such structures and their beneficiaries, and foreign law and taxation. Nyree’s clients range from individuals and their families in a personal capacity, to individual and professional trustees.
The London private client team welcomes associates Claude Alleston and Daniel Brandon. Claude joins from Irwin Mitchell, where he qualified in 2012, and his work focuses on advising entrepreneurs, families, trustees, executors, beneficiaries, corporate entities, family offices and trust companies on a broad range of private client work, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, probate, tax, succession planning and charities.
Daniel joins from Kingsley Napley where he assisted with a full range of private client services, focusing on UK and international tax issues for high and ultra-high net worth individuals, families and trustees. In 2015 Daniel featured in the Citywealth Top 100 Future Leaders List, recognised as a rising star under 40 in the private wealth industry. Nyree, Daniel and Claude have all featured in the eprivateclient ‘Top 35 Under 35’, the definitive annual list which is designed to identify, recognise, introduce and promote the rising stars of the private client professions.
Commenting on these appointments, Clare Archer, head of the private client team, said: “I’m absolutely delighted to welcome the new editions to our team. We’ve taken on some great people to help meet client demand. Their talent, experience and specialist knowledge in helping clients with complex issues will be a great asset as we continue to grow our practice.”
