The All-Party Parliamentary Group on Migration (APPG) has published its findings on UK post-study work opportunities for international students. The report examines the impact of the closure of the former Tier 1 Post-Study Work visa on universities, the economy and foreign students. In addition, it analyses the alternative routes introduced in 2012.
Both the Government’s closure of the Post-Study Work visa route and the alternative routes established in its place have come under criticism in the report.
The APPG recommends that a new route is introduced to allow foreign students to remain in the UK for at least 12 months following completion of graduate studies. It is also recommended that the Tier 2 (General) category be amended to provide greater flexibility in respect of minimum salary requirements. The report finishes by suggesting that the Government commissions an in-depth independent review of the impact of policy on this area.
