Act now to opt out of public disclosure of non-domestic EPC data

In response to a request made under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, the Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) will be releasing approximately 723,000 records comprised of data from Display Energy Certificates and non-domestic Energy Performance Certificates belonging to non-domestic buildings in England and Wales. These records will be published at address level.

DCLG believes it is in the public interest to make this information available and is working towards releasing more energy performance of buildings data as open data from 2015.

The information will be released on this website, which hosts statistics on a variety of themes relating to communities and local government.

DCLG is giving holders of non-domestic Energy Performance Certificates the opportunity to decide whether to opt out before the records are released in January 2015.

How to opt out

Holders of non-domestic Energy Performance Certificates may opt out by visiting this page before Friday, 16 January 2015. Holders of Display Energy Certificates do not have this option.

The choice to opt out will remain after that date but the information may already have been released in response to this specific request for information.

Real estate partner, James Nadin, said: “With new regulations banning landlords from renting out energy-inefficient properties expected imminently, investors are increasingly taking into account a building’s EPC rating as part of their investment decision making process. The fact that DCLG has received this request illustrates that EPCs and a building’s energy efficiency is now of much greater interest to investors than it has been in the past.”
