UK Visas & Immigration to provide updates on the progress of permanent migration applications

Posted: 11/06/2014

UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) has announced that, as of 2 June 2014, certain applicants will receive status updates about their applications by e-mail.  The applicants concerned are those who submit applications for:

  • indefinite leave to remain (also known as settlement or permanent residency);
  • British citizenship; or
  • under the Immigration (European Economic Area) Regulations 2006, eg via the EEA1, EEA2, EEA3, and EEA4 forms.

Currently, UKVI aims to process these applications within six months (click here for details). Until now, such applicants could only enquire about the process once more than six months had passed.  This initiative, which will initially take place for up to six months, has been developed in response to feedback from applicants as well as advisers from organisations such as Penningtons Manches LLP, who have indicated that up-to-date communication on these types of applicants would be welcome.

The relevant application forms are being updated (click here to view) in order to reflect this new initiative and to allow applicants to provide an e-mail address for correspondence. Applicants should note that updates will be sent to only those specified e-mail addresses.  All current forms of postal communication will continue.
