Penningtons' inward investment guide receives UK Government endorsement

Posted: 20/06/2012

Penningtons’ India group has published a practical guide for Indian businesses and individuals on the key points to be considered when moving to the UK.

The brochure provides in-depth advice on a broad range of commercial issues such as structuring a business, acquisitions of both organisations and real estate, commercial contracts and intellectual property law. It also details areas which require particular attention before arrival in the UK, including tax planning, immigration, employment matters and wealth management. The India group’s dual qualified lawyers, who have substantial experience of acting for Indian businesses investing in this country, teamed up with specialists from Penningtons’ other key practice areas to ensure that the publication provides a comprehensive overview.

Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint, the UK Minister of State for Trade and Investment, has supported the brochure by writing a foreword which highlights the strong trade links between India and the UK and emphasises the need for specialist legal advice when expanding overseas. Penningtons’ India team is particularly gratified that its new guide has received such a high profile endorsement.

The UK has a long history of international trade and is the world’s second largest recipient of inward investment. Of 1,200 Indian companies in Europe, 700 are based in the UK and, between them, they employ more than 90,000 people.

Commenting on the new publication, which was written in response to numerous requests from clients, Penningtons partner and India group head Rustam Dubash said: “Over the years, we have advised a large number of Indian organisations and individuals on their move to this country, and the brochure covers the areas that we believe are of greatest importance. For those who are looking further afield, the brochure also touches on the extension of client activities into other European countries.”
