Robert Turner

Robert is a consultant in the construction and infrastructure team with more than 30 years’ experience. He has an extensive track record of working on high-value complex construction and infrastructure projects.

He advises on building and engineering contracts, development agreements, public/private partnership agreements, operation and maintenance contracts, FM contracts, consultant appointments, collateral warranties and other ancillary documents. Robert has worked in a variety of sectors including housing, health, transport, education, energy, retail, defence and leisure, and has worked on all types of construction procurement, including design and build, target cost, construction management, management contracting, traditional and alliancing. His clients have included project sponsors, developers, lenders, contractors and procuring authorities, and he has advised on projects in a number of jurisdictions including the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Kazakhstan and Ghana.

I enjoy working with clients to help them deliver much needed new or improved buildings and infrastructure. I guide them through what is often a very complex process, involving multiple interested parties, to agree contracts that enable them to meet their objectives for the project.

Robert has recently worked on a series of building safety remediation projects for building owners of high-rise buildings, including cladding replacement projects. These have included grant-funded projects under the Building Safety Fund and the Cladding Safety Scheme. He also advises clients on issues arising out of the Building Safety Act. Robert also has particular experience of advising on domestic and international public/private partnerships (PPP), such as advising on PPP projects for housing, highways (including bridges and tunnel projects), hospitals, schools and military accommodation projects. His experience extends to advising on industry standard forms such as the JCT, FIDIC, NEC, and MF/1, as well as bespoke building and engineering contracts.

Duncan Taylor

Consultant

Duncan is a consultant in the firm’s residential property team. He specialises in all aspects of residential property, particularly transactional work and residential landlord and tenant matters, as well as secured lending with a number of private banks.

He has developed a niche specialism in advising and acting for high-net-worth individuals based both in the UK and from all over the world who are looking to buy homes in London for their own use and/or for investment purposes. He is also well connected to specialist funders and the leading London estate agents and buying agents who deal in this type of work. He is a member of the firm’s private wealth sector group.

Duncan Taylor, Consultant

Duncan was the co-author of the first and second editions of The Allied Dunbar Business Tax and Law Handbook and was previously a board member of the North London Chamber of Commerce. He is currently a non-executive director of a central London enterprise agency. He joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2011 (after 30 years with his family’s firm Wedlake Saint) and was a partner until 2021.

John Strange

Consultant

John is a consultant in the marine, trade and aviation team, and is based in the London office. He has in-depth experience of a range of maritime problems, particularly those affecting the cruise and ferry industries, superyachts and marine leisure, and the offshore industry.

A member of the firm’s 24/7 global response team, John regularly advises shipowners, P&I clubs and underwriters on issues involving collision, salvage and insurance disputes. He also advises clients in respect of marine personal injury and fatality incidents, for which he is regarded as a market leader.

I work closely with shipowners, insurers and operators to resolve complex maritime issues swiftly and effectively. John Strange, Consultant

Assisting charterers and their P&I Club in pursuing claims against the owners arising from multiple injuries and breach of contract claims brought by passengers following the complete immobilisation of a passenger vessel when struck by a Mediterranean wave during heavy weather.

Fatal explosion during cargo discharge

Helping the owners of a product tanker to deal with the subsequent investigation by the MAIB, inquest and civil claims following an explosion during cargo discharge that resulted in loss of life.

Loss of cattle carrier in Mediterranean

Acting for a P&I club following the loss of a cattle carrier that foundered in the Mediterranean with the loss of 70 lives and 35,000 head of cattle.

Destruction of sailing yacht

Advising underwriters in France and the UK following the loss of the VOR 70 sailing yacht which was totally destroyed by fire.

Hugo Stephens

Consultant

Hugo is one of the most experienced housing lawyers in the country, having advised housing associations, local authorities, banks and commercial organisations for over 30 years. He is an expert in governance including charity law, finance and major projects.

His experience includes corporate, constitutional and governance matters for housing associations. This leads him to work across group structures, reorganisations, mergers and demergers, transfers of engagement and amalgamations. Hugo has also advised on the formation of new housing associations, both not-for-profit and for-profit, and their registration with the Regulator of Social Housing, and subsequent relationship and working arrangements with this body. Charles Seaward

Charles is a consultant in the commercial real estate team, based in Oxford.

Donald Lambert

The nature of those problems changes through the economic cycle, and he covers the full range of problems that one encounters, from enforcement of rent and other obligations to contract termination and insolvency. Suzanne Kingston

Suzanne Kingston is one of England’s best known family lawyers, and a ‘pre-eminent force in family law’.
