Maritime connections strengthened at Jakarta’s 2026 Tanto Run

Managing associate and master mariner Mark Myles from the Singapore office of Penningtons Manches Cooper joined shipping industry colleagues and contacts on 19 July at the 2026 Tanto Run, a charity event organised by companies within the Tanto Group, one of Indonesia’s leading maritime transport businesses.

This year’s run attracted approximately 750 participants to central Jakarta, building on the success of its inaugural event in 2025. The 8km route provided an opportunity for industry professionals to strengthen relationships while supporting health and wellbeing initiatives. It also took advantage of Jakarta’s long-established Car Free Day programme, which sees major roads in the city centre closed to traffic on Sunday mornings. Starting and finishing near the Gelora Bung Karno complex, participants ran through the Sudirman and Senayan districts, experiencing some of Jakarta’s busiest commercial streets free from vehicles.

Mark attended alongside colleagues and industry contacts from Skuld, SOP and marine insurance broker Tigermar. He completed the course in 42 minutes and 49 seconds, improving on his previous year’s time and enjoying the chance to connect with shipowners, insurers, brokers and other maritime stakeholders in a relaxed setting.

Among the event’s sponsors were PT Tanto Intim Line (Tanto Line), one of Indonesia’s foremost domestic container shipping operators, with a network linking major ports across the archipelago and handling hundreds of thousands of containers annually. Another supporter was PT Lumoso Pratama Line (Lumoso Shipping), the Tanto Group’s dry bulk shipping division, which transports commodities including coal, mineral ores, fertiliser, steel and cement throughout Indonesia and internationally.

With participation increasing and a growing enthusiasm for running within Indonesia’s maritime community, the event looks set to become a regular fixture in the South East Asia maritime industry’s networking calendar.
