Negligent spinal surgery

Negligent spinal surgery

We have recently settled a claim against a private spinal surgeon for negligent surgery to correct scoliosis which left our client suffering significant neurological damage. She has long-term severely impaired bladder function.

It transpired that during the surgery a fragment of bone had broken off one of our client’s facet joints and become lodged in the spinal canal. Our medical negligence solicitors obtained expert evidence that for this to occur there had to have been a failure on the surgeon’s part to exercise the required care and skill. The surgeon managed to retrieve the piece of bone but not before our client had suffered spinal cord contusion causing her neurological damage.
