Delay in diagnosing bacterial meningitis

Our client attended his GP complaining of symptoms consistent with meningitis, which the GP initially diagnosed as an ear infection.

The GP persisted in that diagnosis for several weeks despite the fact that antibiotics were having no discernible effect and that our client was developing headaches and numbness across his face.

When meningitis was eventually diagnosed, our client had developed a brain abscess and required extensive treatment, leaving him with serious physical and cognitive problems.
