Civil penalty notices overturned

Our client received civil penalty notices to the value of £45,000 through the post from the UK Border Agency (UKBA) for alleged employment of six illegal workers.

Having tried unsuccessfully to establish a dialogue with UKBA and show them that he was not liable to pay the penalties, our client turned to us upon receipt of a notice by UKBA that the penalties were to be enforced as a debt. We filed a formal notice of objection along with evidence that our client was not the legal employer of the individuals in question which resulted in UKBA cancelling all notices.
