Richard Johnson-Brown

Partner

Richard is a partner in the marine, trade and aviation team, specialising in shipping, commodities and yachting disputes.

In the commercial shipping sector, he handles disputes arising from shipbuilding, ship sale and purchase, ship management, charterparties, booking notes and bills of lading, as well as disputes linked to collisions and general average. He also acts on disputes in the energy and commodities sector that arise from the sale of goods and trade finance. In the yachting sector, Richard advises on disputes arising from yacht design, yacht building, sale and purchase, chartering, insurance and accidents at sea. He also has experience of other commercial disputes, such as shareholder and finance-related disputes.

Dispute resolution is like a chess game. Anticipating multiple steps ahead is crucial. It’s also about understanding the psychology of the players involved and effectively communicating with them to achieve the best outcome.
