Profile

Vanessa is a senior associate in the private client team in Guildford. She specialises in probate and the administration of estates to mitigate taxes and to ensure that a difficult time is made as smooth as possible for the bereaved. In addition, Vanessa deals with the resealing of grants and obtaining grants for those domiciled outside of the UK with UK assets.

She also advises on wills and associated documentation with an emphasis on tax planning, the benefits of charitable gifting and other available allowances and exemptions.

Vanessa qualified in 1995 and joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2014. She has approximately seven years PQE in Private Client matters and is a recognised lawyer in the Legal 500.

Guiding trustees through delicate family negotiations to reach an acceptable position in the distribution of a discretionary trust arising within an estate.
Achieving significant CGT mitigation on property price increases within an estate, whilst also obtaining agreement as to property value increases not being liable to IHT within an estate.
Successfully mitigating IHT liabilities including the use of QSR, historical gifts out of excess income, AIM, APR and BPR.
Advising on the use of trusts, loans, disclaimers and variations for tax planning purposes.
Resealing foreign grants and arranging for the reseal of UK grants where required.
