Oles Makarevich
Associate
Oles is an associate in the charities team. He advises charities, not-for-profit organisations, and purpose-led clients on governance, regulatory, and commercial matters. He has a particular interest in charities operating in education, health, sport, and social impact, and in helping trustees and senior teams navigate legal duties in a clear, practical and proportionate way.
His work includes supporting clients with trustee duties, constitutional and governance issues, charitable structures, regulatory compliance, and practical risk management. Before joining the firm, Oles worked in-house as junior legal counsel at a global shipping services business. In that role, he advised on commercial contracts, sanctions, regulatory issues, and shipping-related matters. He spent time working in the Shanghai office, giving him first-hand exposure to international business operations and cross-border legal and commercial risk.
I aim to give clear, practical, and proportionate advice. Having worked both in private practice and in-house, I understand the importance of legal advice that is technically sound but also commercial, accessible, and focused on helping clients make confident decisions.
Oles previously trained and qualified at another leading UK law firm, where he completed a seat in the charities team and gained experience supporting charities and not-for-profit clients on governance, regulatory, and transactional matters. He also gained broader experience across employment law and commercial advisory work during his training contract. Oles studied history at UCL.
