Matthew Middleton

Associate

Matthew is an associate in the employment team. He acts for individuals, staff associations and their members, educational institutions, and corporate clients across a range of employment law matters.

With a broad practice of both contentious and non-contentious matters, Matthew has worked on Employment Tribunal cases concerning employment status, unfair dismissal, breach of contract, discrimination and whistleblowing issues. He has advised senior executives on exiting their role and provides general HR support to employer clients, including drafting settlement agreements and policy documents.

I advise employees and employers on both contentious and non-contentious employment matters, with a particular interest in the technology, financial services and sports sectors. I have extensive experience in using technology to improve the delivery of legal services, including in the context of data subject access requests.

Matthew also has significant experience with assisting organisations in complying with complex data subject access requests from employees. He advises clients on relevant exemptions and on using dedicated technology to ensure efficient document review. He is a member of the firm’s AI working group. Having worked at the firm since 2017 as a knowledge paralegal in various teams within the business services division, Matthew became a trainee solicitor in 2022, and qualified as a solicitor in March 2024.
