Luke Shaw

Senior associate

Luke is a senior associate in the employment team based in Oxford. He specialises in advising employers, individuals, unions and their members on a wide range of contentious and non-contentious employment law issues.

He is recognised in particular for his expertise advising on industrial disputes and complex employment litigation, including claims involving allegations of discrimination, disputes concerning TUPE and matters involving issues of territorial jurisdictional. He also advises on a wide range of day-to-day HR matters, including disciplinary and grievance issues, policies and procedures and redundancies and re-organisations.

I am an employment lawyer advising our clients on the full spectrum of employment law issues, with a particular interest in complex and novel matters. I enjoy helping clients navigate through the complexities of the legal landscape in a way that is understandable and mindful of the commercial realities of their business.

The variety of Luke’s work leads him to act for a broad range of employers, particularly within the life sciences and technology, transport and maritime sectors. These include a multi-national transport group, an international supplier of liquified natural gas, and spin-out companies from the University of Oxford, Imperial College London and other universities.

Luke qualified in 2018 and joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in January 2019. He is a member of the firm’s life sciences, shipping and industrial relations sector groups and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.

Acting for a transport operating company in defence of complex claims brought to the employment tribunal.

TUPE obligations

Advising a materials handling manufacturer and distributer on its TUPE obligations in relation to its proposed acquisition of parts of a group business.

Unfair dismissal defence

Acting for an international LNG transport company in defence of a whistleblowing detriment and unfair dismissal claim in circumstances where territorial jurisdiction of the employment tribunal was in dispute.

Agency worker regulations

Advising a multinational transport group on issues arising under the Agency Worker Regulations 2010

Trade dispute

Acting for a large union in relation to detriment and dismissal claims that arose as a result of a lengthy trade dispute.

Whistleblowing claims

Acting for members of a staff association in relation to complex discrimination and whistleblowing claims.
