Laura Rowley
Senior associate
Laura is a senior associate in the real estate litigation team. Her work covers a broad spectrum of property-related disputes for clients ranging from institutional investors to private individuals.
She is a trusted advisor to the firm’s major clients on their commercial and residential property portfolios. This involves advising on sale and purchase disputes, landlord and tenant issues, as well as real property and land matters such as easements, trespass and adverse possession.
I have more than a decade of experience in real estate. I enjoy identifying opportunities for settlement and negotiating on behalf of my clients. Litigation can have a huge toll and my aim is to take a sensible approach and only fight the fights worth having. That is what clients thank me for.
Laura has a particular interest in property co-ownership disputes and leads this area of the team’s practice. She regularly advises separating couples and estranged family members or investors on the sale of their properties and how proceeds should be divided, including the buy-out of one owner by another and what is due in respect of equitable accounting claims. This work is done largely in the property courts but Laura also has experience of working with the firm’s family and contentious private client teams where beneficial ownership claims are asserted by third parties intervening in divorce proceedings or against the estate of a deceased property owner.
She is also known for her expertise in building safety and is currently advising on numerous high-rise residential towers with fire and structural safety concerns. This is an area Laura has been heavily involved in since 2020. Her focus is on advising landlords on compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022 and other relevant legislation and regulations. Where remedial works are required, she has experience of obtaining grant funding, pursuing developers and terminating purchase contracts, in addition to appealing improvement notices served by local authorities where the scope or timing of works are disputed by the responsible person or pledge developer.
