Mark Lee, Partner at Penningtons Manches

Profile

Mark heads our travel law team and is listed as a 'leading individual' in travel law by Chambers UK and The Legal 500. He is noted as 'a mover and a shaker' in the market, who is 'particularly adept in high-value serious injury claims and also knowledgeable and approachable'.

Mark primarily represents individuals in relation to compensation claims arising from accidents abroad, both in a claimant and defendant capacity. As a specialist in catastrophic injury claims, he acts for numerous adults and children who have sustained severe traumatic brain injuries while on holiday. He also offers assistance to travel insurers on the subrogated recovery of their outlay and advises insurers and Lloyds syndicates regarding policy wordings and other contentious issues. He continues to represent UK travel insurers in various claims pursued by Gestitursa for the cost of medical treatment in Spain.

A fluent Spanish speaker, Mark has represented Spanish nationals and companies both in Spain and in the UK. He also gives advice to niche tour operators and international hotel chains regarding the implications of the package travel regulations, holiday sickness claims and risk management. He is a regular commentator in the travel and legal press, and delivers in-house legal training to insurers and Lloyds syndicates on travel litigation issues and private international law.
