James is a partner within the projects, development and construction team, and is co-chair of the firm’s ESG/sustainability sector group.
Clients consider James a ‘go-to construction lawyer’, specialising in non-contentious work, with depth of experience in all aspects of construction and development. He has particular interest and expertise in the care sector, the energy transition, renewable energy, sustainability, accommodation and green development work. James works with clients to achieve commercial, real-world outcomes. He advises on project structuring together with drafting bespoke forms of EPC and development agreements, as well as drafting and negotiating amendments to standard forms of contract including the JCT, FIDIC and NEC forms. He is also experienced in drafting and negotiating complex engineering contracts linked to infrastructure, energy generation and civils work.
I work with clients to provide strategic and commercial legal advice to allow them to achieve their objectives. I enjoy working alongside clients on a project as part of the development team and provide ongoing practical advice, linked to delivery timescales and accounting for the impact on the wider environment and net zero and sustainable procurement targets.
James has acted on large-scale solar, mixed commercial, landmark residential schemes, hotel, university and student accommodation schemes, as well as hospital development projects and care schemes. He also supports clients in adopting district heat networks and novel ESG strategies and continues to help clients develop bespoke energy solutions.
