James Berry

Senior associate

Recognised by the Legal 500 as a ‘key lawyer’, James is a senior associate within the Court of Protection team. He specialises in supporting individuals who lack mental capacity to manage their own property and financial affairs.

With extensive experience in assisting clients who have suffered a life-altering acquired brain injury, James provides clear advice to the client and their families on the financial aspects of their medical negligence or personal injury claims. His focus is on ensuring that his clients have the right support around them and that any compensation received is properly protected and managed in their best interests.

As a Court of Protection Lawyer, my clients and their families often seek me out when they are going through a particularly difficult time in their lives. My aim is to combine my compassion with expert knowledge to make this difficult time as clear and manageable as possible.

James Berry, Senior associate

Beyond handling the day-to-day general management of deputyship and trust matters, James brings significant experience of navigating complex applications to the Court of Protection. This includes for the authority to make gifts, provide gratuitous care payments, sell and purchase properties, execute a statutory will, and for the appointment of lay deputies. Having previously practised across a range of private client areas (including wills, probate, tax and lasting powers of attorney), James’ broad knowledge base ensures he offers a comprehensive and tailored service to his clients.
