Gavin is a highly experienced trade mark, designs and brand protection specialist. He advises brand owners in a wide range of industry sectors including fashion, retail, sport, food and beverage, education, charities, publishing, IT, biotech and professional services.
He handles all aspects of trade mark and design filing, prosecution and enforcement, and is regularly involved in complex, multi-jurisdictional filing programmes and cross-border disputes. Gavin’s practice incorporates all elements of trade mark and design portfolio management, advice to brand owners on the registerability and availability of their brands, and conflict resolution through opposition, cancellation and/or infringement proceedings. He also advises brand owners on the proper usage and commercial exploitation of their brands, as well as on the acquisition of third-party brands and related due diligence.
I enjoy advising a broad range of clients that operate across diverse industries and sectors, helping them to navigate specific market challenges and take full advantage of commercial opportunities, both domestically and internationally. I have a particular interest and specialism in resolving complex, cross-border trade mark disputes, through a holistic, commercial and strategic approach to conflict management.
As a dual-qualified solicitor and chartered trade mark attorney, Gavin splits his time between the firm’s Oxford and London offices. He is co-head of the firm’s fashion and luxury brands group, and chair of the MARQUES (The European Brand Owners’ Association) international trade mark law and practice team.
Gavin regularly contributes articles to CITMA Review and other industry publications, and has spoken at numerous international conferences, events and venues, including The World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva. He is recognised by leading practitioner directory the World Trademark Review 1000 for enforcement and litigation, in which clients describe him as ‘an extraordinarily valuable resource’ and ‘very good at looking at the big picture’.
