Mylor is an associate solicitor in the private client team in Guildford. He works on the full range of core UK private client matters, including: tax planning, trusts, wills, lasting powers of attorney, and probate.

Mylor has a particular interest in tax planning, including the remittance basis of taxation for resident non-domiciled individuals. He is a member of STEP and is currently studying for full STEP accreditation. He recently achieved distinction in the STEP exam on the taxation of trusts and estates.

Since qualifying as a lawyer in 2006, Mylor has specialised in private client matters at a number of top ranked firms. He has also worked as a wealth planning consultant at UBS Private Bank (London), where he advised on the taxation of investment products, banking arrangements and investment strategies for users of the remittance basis of taxation, offshore structures, pre-immigration tax planning, and family wealth structures.

Recent work highlights

  • Advising the owners of shares in a private trading company on the 100% relief from inheritance tax available for transfers of business property. Establishing a trust for the same clients’ wealth planning.
  • Quantifying a claim for ‘normal expenditure out of income’, potentially saving an estate over £100,000 of inheritance tax.
  • Advising HNWIs on a variety of wealth planning, including: lifetime gifts, establishing and running trusts, tax reliefs and exemptions, and property ownership.
  • Providing advice on the ownership of UK residential property to non-UK residents.
  • Helping a UK resident client to discover that he had a claim to a domicile of origin outside of the UK. Providing advice on why this could be useful and how to retain the status.
