Penningtons Manches Cooper launches virtual work experience initiative aimed at A-level students

Posted: 13/09/2021

Penningtons Manches Cooper has linked up with Speakers for Schools to offer a three day work experience programme that will allow A-level students to gain an insight into work at a law firm and the issues lawyers help clients tackle every day. The event will run between 25 and 27 October 2021, during the autumn half term.

Students will meet lawyers from a range of different teams across the firm. The sessions will cover specific practice areas and include interactive workshops to enable students to learn some of the skills necessary to assist businesses and individuals with the legal challenges that they face. The early careers team at Penningtons Manches Cooper will also help students examine the different career options in a law firm, and run a CV workshop to explain how to stand out from the crowd when applying for roles in the future.

Students with no prior work experience, and without access to other opportunities, such as support from parents or contacts, or who qualify for free school meals or Pupil Premium, will be prioritised for this programme. All sessions will run virtually on Google Classroom, so attendance in person is not required.

Speakers for Schools was founded in 2010 by ITV’s political editor, Robert Peston, and aims to end educational inequality by giving all young people access to the same prestigious networks available to the top fee-paying schools in the UK. Its highly regarded work experience programme regularly links state school students to industry-leading companies.

To apply for the October work experience opportunity, visit the Speakers for Schools site and create a ‘Young people’ sign in. The closing date for applications is 26 September 2021.
