‘Distinguished’, ‘standout’ and ‘widely respected’ – Penningtons Manches Cooper teams praised for their quality in 2022 legal directory rankings

Following on from strong financial results for 2020-21, Penningtons Manches Cooper has been recognised in the 2022 legal directories for its excellence in a number of practice areas. Listed in both The Legal 500 and Chambers UK 2022 across a range of areas of law, from services for business and private individuals to real estate, the firm has also been named in The Times Best Law Firms list 2022.

The legal directories provide independent analysis, drawing on a range of research including client testimonials, recommendations from fellow lawyers, and third-party experts to present a comprehensive account of the standards of law firms across the UK. To achieve and maintain a highly ranked position in the directories is a point of pride for any law firm, and Penningtons Manches Cooper has continued its recent success in this year’s editions.

The Legal 500 lists Penningtons Manches Cooper as a top tier firm in nine practice areas, alongside recommendations in a further 49. Of these recommendations, over half were listed in band 2. The immigration team, described as ‘one of the best in the market for immigration issues in higher education’, has been ranked in band 1, owing to its ‘well-established reputation as a strong choice’, and was joined by the corporate and commercial team in the same band, highlighted for its ‘strong M&A and venture capital practice’. The employment team has been recognised for its ‘specialist’ knowledge of pension matters, as well as being ‘well-known for its sector focus’ and its expertise in the social housing, education, technology, life sciences, and construction industries. Praised as ‘impressive’, ‘experienced’ and ‘talented’, the personal injury and clinical negligence teams have been noted for their ‘wide range of complex and high-value claims’, with the family team lauded as a ‘sparkling collection of successful and empathetic family lawyers’ who handle ‘the full spectrum’ of family law matters. Others featuring in band 1 include the ‘widely respected’ commercial property team, alongside the IT and telecommunications practice – ‘when it comes to tech issues, Penningtons Manches Cooper is a leading firm across the South East’. Individual recognition was also abundant - 37 of our lawyers were recognised in the elite ‘Leading Lawyers’ list, with eight appearing in the prestigious ‘Hall of Fame’.

In Chambers UK 2022, Penningtons Manches Cooper has been listed as a band 1 firm in 10 practice areas, and recommended in a further 27. As in The Legal 500, the ‘distinguished’ and ‘well-respected’ clinical negligence team has been acknowledged for its ‘depth of expertise’, with the ‘extremely organised and very thorough’ personal injury team described as a ‘leading practice’. The family team consists of ‘an impressive cohort of family lawyers’, as quoted by a client, while the employment team is noted as providing ‘leading employment work’. The real estate group is considered an ‘impressive team’ that is ‘professional, knowledgeable’ and possesses the ‘initiative and desire to get the deal done’ according to clients, while real estate litigation is handled by a ‘respected and versatile team’ that is ‘flexible and commercial in their approach’. The ‘leading’ corporate team, meanwhile, is described as an ‘excellent team – smart, driven, knowledgeable and outcome-oriented’, with the pensions team ‘well-established’ and ‘well known’ for their work in advising public and private employers and trustees. In total, Chambers UK ranked 69 of our lawyers across a range of specialisms, with 14 achieving a rank of band 1.

To round off this superb performance, the firm was also recognised in the latest edition of the annual Times Best Law Firms list, commended specifically for commercial dispute resolution, family law, and personal injury and clinical negligence.
