The Legal 500 and Chambers UK laud Penningtons Manches Cooper’s ‘phenomenal client service’ in 2021 legal directory rankings

Penningtons Manches Cooper has been commended by the 2021 legal directories for its strength across a range of key departments. The firm’s broad variety of practice areas is reflected in accolades from both The Legal 500 and Chambers UK which note the firm as having established a strong reputation in areas of law spanning services for businesses, private individuals, educational institutions and charities.

The directories are the leading authority in analysing the capabilities of law firms across the UK, and are updated every year to reflect the current legal market. Research is based on client testimonials, submissions from competitors and third-party experts to provide a well-rounded view of the country’s law firms. Penningtons Manches Cooper is consistently ranked highly in the independent directories and is proud to continue building on the success of its standing in both publications over recent years.

In Chambers UK 2021, Penningtons Manches Cooper has been listed as a top tier firm across 10 practice areas, and has been recommended in a further 25 – with a particular emphasis on the firm’s ‘phenomenal’ client service. The well-regarded clinical negligence team maintains its band 1 position and has received plaudits for being a nationwide leader in the field. A client describes the team as ‘sympathetic yet determined to seek and achieve positive results’. Similarly, the personal injury group has also been ranked in the top tier and is noted as being a ‘leading practice’ while the firm’s family team is praised for ‘inspiring confidence with every step’.  The real estate practice is described as ‘really good on the client service side and among the best for real estate work’ while the specialist real estate litigation team has also been ranked in the top tier for its ‘strong’ practice across development and construction disputes as well as landlord and tenant matters. The ‘very professional, very knowledgeable and extremely helpful’ corporate team as well as the pensions and intellectual property practices have received similarly effusive feedback. Other teams which have demonstrated an 'excellent understanding of client needs' include the Court of Protection, education, information technology, litigation, shipping and travel practices. In addition, 12 of the firm’s lawyers were graded as band 1 level solicitors with 67 lawyers listed as ranked individuals.

The Legal 500 lists Penningtons Manches Cooper as top tier in 13 practice areas, while recommending it in another 46 with numerous teams recognised in band 2. A total of 31 lawyers have been listed in the elite ‘leading lawyers’ list, The Legal 500’s guide to outstanding lawyers nationwide. The corporate team has been lauded as ‘outstanding’ and ranked in band 1, while the immigration team has been ‘particularly recommended’ in the same band for its work in human rights, appeals and overstay. Penningtons Manches Cooper’s banking and finance team is noted for regularly going ‘the extra mile’ for clients, and the employment team is similarly acknowledged for its role in advising on both contentious and non-contentious employment matters. Other strong performances were demonstrated in the commodities disputes commercial litigation, contentious trusts and probate, Court of Protection, education, environment, intellectual property, personal tax, trusts and probate, property litigation, shipping, social housing and travel categories.
