Penningtons Manches is to expand into the Midlands by opening an office in Birmingham.
The firm has appointed prominent local real estate lawyer Joel Kordan to launch a new commercial property offering. Previously a partner at the Birmingham office of Pinsent Masons, Joel joins Penningtons Manches as a partner today.
With extensive commercial and residential development experience, Joel has particular expertise in acting for family offices on a range of investment and development matters. He also has extensive experience in the automotive, rail and retail sectors having acted on a number of large-scale transactions for multinationals and public sector organisations.
Peter McElligott, Penningtons Manches' head of real estate comments:
“Joel is the ideal partner to lead this new venture. He is renowned in the Birmingham market, having operated at the highest level for a number of years, establishing an excellent network and client base which complements our London-based portfolio particularly well.
“Having Joel on board will allow us to grow strategically in Birmingham and eventually expand our offering into surrounding geographical areas. We expect quite quickly to begin to build and develop a top class team in Birmingham.”
Penningtons Manches CEO David Raine says: “We are delighted to welcome Joel to the partnership. Real estate is a key strategic sector for the firm; Joel’s first class technical and commercial skills will allow us to build significant capacity in the country’s second city. I very much look forward to working with him and am confident our local offering will thrive under his leadership. We intend for the new office to be a platform for growth in the Birmingham market, and for Joel to play a key role in the development of a broad offering that includes practice and sector teams from across the rest of the firm.”
Penningtons Manches real estate division represents almost a quarter of the firm’s fee income. Its various practice areas, including the real estate investors and commercial property teams, are highly rated by prominent legal directories Chambers UK and The Legal 500. In the last financial year fee income grew by 16 % on the back of a busy and successful 12 months.
