Members of the diversity and inclusion committee at Penningtons Manches were delighted to welcome representatives from a range of law firms to its London office on Tuesday 11 July 2017 for the launch of the first Diversity In-Law Breakfast Forum.
The new group aims to achieve greater impact in diversity and inclusion initiatives across the legal sector by collectively discussing the challenges which members are facing and sharing experiences and best practice. It is expected to meet on a quarterly basis and will highlight a different aspect of diversity and inclusion at each session.
The focus for the initial meeting was LGBTQ+ visibility which is receiving increasing emphasis both internally and within member firms’ external communications. Among those offering insights into their current activities in this area were partners, lawyers and HR professionals from Withers, Kinsgley Napley, Boodle Hatfield and Bristows as well as guests from Stonewall who provided constructive feedback on submissions to the Workplace Equality Index, the definitive benchmarking tool for employers to measure their progress on LGBTQ+ equality in the workplace.
Speaking shortly after the launch event, Penningtons Manches HR director Andrea Law said: “It was a privilege to be able to host the augural meeting of this network which was very well received by those who attended. As a group, we recognise that while a large number of firms have made great progress, there are still many diversity and inclusion issues to address to ensure our people are given every opportunity to develop and excel. We believe that by joining forces, we can enhance our understanding of the core challenges and encourage further success.”
