Penningtons Manches advises on sale of Oxford University artificial intelligence spin-out

Posted: 27/03/2017

Penningtons Manches’ corporate team has advised the selling shareholders of Wrapidity Limited on the sale of the company to Meltwater, the global media intelligence company.

Wrapidity is an artificial intelligence spin-out from Oxford University using breakthrough technology to automate data extraction from content on the web, tackling the challenge of unstructured data. It helps businesses source the right data from the web, turning billions of webpages into a highly structured database of relevant data and enabling better search, recommendations and analytics for that business. Meltwater's Media Intelligence platform offers companies global and real time "outside insight" gathered from media and social media which enables customers to make better, more informed decisions – it has over 56 offices on six continents.

The Penningtons Manches team was led by corporate partner James Went, with Kathy Hills (senior associate, corporate tax) and Attilio Leccisotti (associate, corporate).

James Went commented: “It was a pleasure to work with the Wrapidity team to complete the successful sale which emphasises our strengths in advising spin-outs and other technology companies throughout their lifecycle.”
