Oxford’s Creation Theatre triumphs with Christmas show

Posted: 08/12/2017

Playgoers expect something a bit anarchic and quirky at a Creation Theatre production, and this year’s rendition of A Christmas Carol at Oxford’s The North Wall took this to new heights, receiving a standing ovation from a delighted audience on press night.

With a dash of Horrible Histories (revelling in the grime of Dickensian London), a tinge of Rocky Horror (punchy musical numbers with some wonderfully grotesque touches), and more than a splash of comedy throughout (Creation officionados will welcome the return of some favourite comic actors), this is a fast-moving adaptation of the classic tale that will appeal across the generations (though probably not for the very young – there are still ghosts and death and scary bits).

No wonder Creation Theatre has just been voted ‘Oxford’s Favourite Theatre’: the IN Oxford award was presented to Creation’s chief executive and producer Lucy Askew after the show on press night. Penningtons Manches’ Oxford team is proud to be headline sponsor for such an outstanding and dynamic enterprise.

A Christmas Carol runs at The North Wall in Oxford from now until 6 January 2018.
