A product safety recall notice has been announced for Dimplex Portable 10L Dehumidifiers, specifically DXDH10N and DH212 models with a serial number starting with 0, 1 or 2. Investigations revealed that a component on the printed circuit board may overheat, which results in the product catching fire.
Owners are advised to stop using the product immediately by switching it off at the mains socket and unplugging the dehumidifier from the socket. Any owner of these models should check the serial number, which is located on the product rating plate which is accessible by removing the water tank.
This announcement will come as a surprise to many consumers as Dimplex is one of the world’s largest electrical heating appliance manufacturers with an established reputation for providing affordable and reliable products that are widely available online and through most high street retailers.
Charlene McAuliffe, associate in the Penningtons Manches personal injury team, comments: “It is always a concern to see electrical items being recalled, particularly items which may be left on by a homeowner for long periods of time. Consumer safety is paramount and there should be rigorous checks to ensure that these products do not pose a risk to the consumer. Manufacturers need to take proactive steps to ensure they are not complacent.
“We have acted for clients injured as a result of defective electrical items which have not only harmed them but also caused devastating fire damage to their home. Many consumers are unaware of their rights to bring a civil claim against a manufacturer for a defective product and we urge anyone who has suffered an injury as a result of a defective product to seek legal advice.”
