Personal injury team investigates two cases of trauma-induced strokes

The Penningtons Manches personal injury team has been instructed by two clients who have both suffered severe strokes within days of being involved in separate and related road traffic accidents that happened within a day of each other. Warren Collins, partner in the personal injury team has been instructed in both cases.

In the first case, our client was a front seat passenger in a car being driven by her husband. He lost control of the car and collided with a stone wall. No other vehicles were involved. The impact was so severe that she fractured her sternum and was admitted to hospital. She suffered a stroke a few days later which has caused her difficulties with mobility, memory and concentration. A claim is being advanced on the basis that the stroke was caused by the accident. 

The following day - and just a few miles from our first client’s accident - our second client was also involved in an accident. He was driving home from work when another car pulled out from a side road and turned right across his path. The impact on the vehicles was considerable. Our client initially thought he had avoided any serious injuries but he also suffered a stroke just a few days later and is now seriously disabled as a result. 

Penningtons Manches is investigating both cases and believe we will succeed in establishing a link between the accidents and the strokes suffered in the days that followed in both cases. Commenting on the case, Warren Collins said: “Given the severity of the disabilities suffered as a result of the strokes, any damages won in a personal injury claim will make a real difference for our clients in terms of securing the ongoing rehabilitation and support that they need.”
