Penningtons Manches’ ‘outstanding’ team shines in Legal 500 2015 rankings

Lawyers at Penningtons Manches LLP have been described as ‘second-to-none’ in the 2015 edition of The Legal 500, published yesterday. The directory, which is branded as the authoritative guide to the UK legal profession, has recommended 55 of the firm’s practice areas across its six UK offices and 100 of its lawyers individually. Penningtons Manches has also been listed as a South East ‘regional heavyweight’ in recognition of the services provided by its Basingstoke, Guildford, Oxford and Reading legal teams. 

This year’s publication has ranked the firm as a top tier practice in 13 areas, including clinical negligence, commercial litigation, commercial property, corporate, education, employment, environment, family, immigration, intellectual property and IT and telecoms. There were also strong performances by the Court of Protection, pensions, personal injury, private client, professional regulation, social housing and travel teams. 

Fourteen lawyers were singled out for particular praise, with inclusion in The Legal 500’s elite ‘leading lawyers’ list. Hilary Aldred (employment), Julie Burton (Court of Protection), Rebecca Carlyon (family), Warren Collins (personal injury), Jane Craig (family), Helen Drayton (banking and finance), Joanne Edwards (family), Jane Mitchell (family), Daff Richardson (education), Maria Riccio (pensions), Chris Shelley (intellectual property), Richard Smith (environment), and James Stewart (family) have all been accorded this accolade. 

Incorporated within the commentary on specialist teams firmwide are copious references to Penningtons Manches’ technical excellence and service ethic. Client testimonials describe lawyers  as ‘supremely capable’, ‘outstanding’, ‘highly experienced’, ‘responsive and knowledgeable’, ‘savvy’ and ‘very commercial’. Penningtons Manches is also said to ‘stand very tall among local competition’. 

Rankings in the directory, which is aimed at buyers of legal services, are based purely on merit and reflect feedback from a broad cross-section of both clients and lawyers within competitor practices. A detailed research process lasting several months involves interviews with over 250,000 corporate counsel globally.
