The dangers of the quest for the perfect bottom

As Kim Kardashian flaunts her ever-growing posterior, some experts are questioning whether this is going too far and whether the public is aware of the dangers of extreme bottom surgery.

It has been reported that Kim Kardashian has spent £12,000 on several bottom enhancing treatments over the past five years, although she denies having buttock implants otherwise known as a gluteoplasty procedure. This process is designed to enhance the buttocks. Incisions are made between the buttock cheeks and a silicone implant is placed in a pocket which has been created behind the upper buttock muscle. The aim is to achieve more definition to a flat bottom. In the UK, the cost of this procedure is usually between £4,000 and £7,000.

Elise Bevan, a solicitor specialising in cosmetic surgery claims, comments: “Buttock implants are considered to be among the riskiest cosmetic procedures currently available. One of the most common types of implants is silicone which requires more invasive surgery compared to the injectable options. Silicone can harden over time and cause discomfort and disfigurement. This has led to individuals seeking out liquid silicone injections which are illegal. Liquid silicone is not a recommended way to enhance the bottom as it can migrate into other areas of the body and cause inflammation. In 2011 dancer Claudia Aderotimi died from heart failure at the age of 20 after industrial silicone was injected into her bottom by an unlicensed US surgeon and in 2010 Renee Talley almost died when her bottom implants became hot to touch and one flipped over under her skin.

“With photographs of Kim Kardashian’s enhanced bottom all over the newspapers and magazines, it is important that there is sufficient awareness of the serious life-threatening risks associated with the quest for the perfect bottom.”
