Penningtons Manches was well represented at the AIJA’s recent Social Media Seminar held in London which was attended by more than 50 young European lawyers. The seminar focused on the key international legal issues such as employer liability, social media policies and freedom of speech and also how lawyers can use social media for business development.
Employment partner, Jon Heuvel, shared his story of how he has built up a Twitter account with more than 600 followers over a nine month period which is now helping him to raise his profile in the media, reconnect with former clients, and find people to work with on mutually interesting projects. He encouraged AIJA members to use Twitter to connect with each other, promote AIJA’s activities by using a common hashtag, and keep themselves at the forefront of their clients’ and contacts’ minds.
Another member of the employment team, Hester Jewitt, led a panel session on how to deal with inappropriate use of social media by employees while dispute resolution partner, Alex Fox, chaired a session on managing the risks associated with the freedom of speech and defamation in social media.
