One year after Penningtons and Manches joined forces, the combined firm has strongly consolidated its rankings in the 2014 edition of The Legal 500, a leading definitive guide to UK law firms. The Legal 500 has ranked Penningtons Manches as a top-tier firm in 14 practice areas; recommended 53 more of the firm’s practice areas; named 11 lawyers on the elite 'leading lawyers' list; and commended 80 lawyers in its editorial commentary.
The firm’s top-tier practice areas include corporate and commercial in London; employment in East Anglia; and private client and family, clinical negligence, commercial property, environment, immigration and TMT in the South East.
The South East offices of Basingstoke, Godalming, Guildford, Oxford and Reading are also recommended as a Tier 1 ‘regional heavyweight’. The South East clinical negligence team retains its Tier 1 ranking with highly positive feedback as does the Godalming private client team which 'ranks among the very best firms'.
The Thames Valley offices of Oxford and Reading have eight top-tier teams – commercial litigation, commercial property, environment, employment, family, immigration, intellectual property, and IT and telecoms. Two Tier 2 teams - corporate and commercial and private client and tax - improved their 2013 Tier 3 ranking.
The Cambridge office held its top-tier ranking for employment with its 'responsive, client-focused' team while its education, banking and finance and corporate and commercial teams were also highly ranked.
Other recommended practice areas across Penningtons Manches' office network include commercial contracts, contentious trusts and probate, Court of Protection, EU and competition, education, healthcare, pensions, personal injury, the 'consistently excellent’ professional regulation team, property litigation, social housing and travel.
Eleven Penningtons Manches lawyers are on the directory's elite list of leading lawyers including a total of five members of the family law team; personal injury specialist, Warren Collins; Court of Protection partner, Julie Burton; and Cambridge employment partner, Tim Tyndall.
Rankings are based purely on merit and reflect feedback passed to the directory by a broad cross-section of both clients and lawyers within competitor practices. As part of their analysis in the last 12 months, researchers from The Legal 500 have interviewed over 250,000 corporate counsel globally.
Penningtons Manches’ chief executive, David Raine, is delighted with this year’s listings: “It has been a challenging but exhilarating 12 months for everyone as we have worked together tirelessly to integrate our teams, our capabilities and our systems and processes. The excellent rankings in The Legal 500 are a welcome vindication from our clients and the marketplace that we are indeed ‘better together’.”
